Vinyl stair installs fail in two ways: poor adhesion (planks lift at the nosing) or unprepared substrate (every step squeaks). We use polyurethane construction adhesive plus mechanical fasteners hidden behind the nosing, and we level every tread with skim coat before the plank goes down. Vinyl Flooring Stairs - frequently asked questions
Modern LVP is embossed with a low-slip micro-texture rated for stair use. It's more slip-resistant than polyurethaned hardwood and similar to LVT in a commercial setting - useful when winter boots track in wet snow.
We remove the carpet, padding, staples, and tack strip first, then evaluate the treads. Solid wood treads get a quick level and the LVP goes on top. Particleboard or damaged treads get replaced.
Not when properly installed. We re-secure every tread and add construction adhesive before laying the plank, which actually makes the staircase quieter than it was before.
