Most mosaics come on mesh or paper-faced sheets roughly 12x12. The skill is in the seams between sheets - lined up wrong, you'll see a grid pattern across the whole installation. We dry-lay every sheet, hand-pull individual tiles to break the pattern at sheet edges, and use white thinset under glass mosaics so the color stays true.
