Hardwood Stair Installation in The Greater London Area

Stairs are the first thing guests see and the hardest-working surface in any home. London Flooring Canada designs and installs hardwood staircases across The Greater London Area - from established London streets to newer homes near Mount Brydges, ON - that feel solid underfoot, match the rest of your [hardwood flooring](/hardwood-flooring), and stand up to decades of daily traffic.

We handle everything in one trip: removing old carpet or treads, leveling the substructure, custom-milling nosings to match your hardwood, installing treads and risers, and finishing with a low-VOC sealer. You get one crew, one schedule, and one warranty.

Solid vs. engineered hardwood treads - which to pick

Solid oak, maple, and hickory treads are the gold standard for staircases, and a quality solid tread will easily outlive a 30-year mortgage.

Engineered treads are a smart pick when you're matching an existing engineered floor or working over a concrete slab. They're dimensionally stable, less prone to squeaks, and finish to look identical to solid wood once installed - see our [engineered hardwood](/engineered-hardwood) page for the full lineup.

  • Red oak, white oak, maple, hickory, walnut - all in stock
  • Custom stains color-matched to your floor (free sample boards)
  • Open-end, boxed, curved, and winding staircases
  • Matching nosings milled in-house when manufacturers don't carry one

What the installation process looks like

Day one is demo and prep. We remove existing carpet, treads, or tile, vacuum out the staircase, and shim any loose stringers so the new staircase doesn't squeak. On day two we install treads, risers, and nosings using construction adhesive and finish nails - no visible fasteners. Day three is finishing: stain (if requested), three coats of polyurethane, and a final detail pass. If you'd rather go with carpet for safety or noise reasons, compare notes on our [carpet stairs](/carpet-stairs) page.

What the installation process looks like

Pairing your stairs with the rest of your floor

Most homeowners want the staircase to read as a continuation of the main floor, not a separate project. We work from the same stain batch and finish sheen as your hardwood flooring so the stairs blend in instead of standing out. If you'd like a deliberate contrast - dark treads with painted white risers, for example - we'll mock that up on a sample board before we order materials. See what past clients thought of the result on our [reviews](/reviews) page.

Hardwood Stairs - frequently asked questions

Yes. We remove the carpet, padding, staples, and tack strip, then inspect the underlying treads. If the existing treads are solid, we can install on top. If they're particleboard or damaged, we replace them with new treads as part of the job.

A standard 14-stair installation takes 2 to 3 days end to end - demo on day one, install on day two, and finishing on day three. You can use the stairs the following morning, with full cure in about 7 days.

That's the goal on most jobs. We bring stain samples to your home, brush them onto a piece of the same wood species, and let you pick before we order. You see the actual color on the actual wood, not a brochure swatch.

No more than any other hard surface. We finish stairs with a matte or satin polyurethane that has a low-slip rating. If you have pets or small children, we can add discreet anti-slip strips under the nosing, or ask about our [carpet stairs](/carpet-stairs) for extra grip.

Our core values

Heritage Every floor we install carries forward 37 years of family flooring heritage, a standard for honest work that began with Herbie Holden in 1989 and continues with the Holden family today.

Craftsmanship We treat every install like it's going in our own home - careful subfloor prep, tight seams, and clean transitions, because the details are what separate a floor that lasts from one that doesn't.

London Flooring Canada carries forward a family flooring standard that began in 1989, and every installer on our crew is held to that same bar for craftsmanship and honesty. When you work with us, you're getting the benefit of 37 years of family flooring heritage - not a new company still figuring things out.
Every install reflects the standard Herbie Holden set back in 1989 - honest measurements, careful prep work, and a finished floor built to last, not just to look good on install day. We bring that same craftsmanship to every home across The Greater London Area, backed by a team that treats your project like it's going into the Holden family's own house.
We love helping homeowners with flooring, furniture moving, and other home interior work. This specialization ensures the strongest level of expertise for any work we do – and helps you get the best deal for the price possible.
We do offer financing solutions and can work with you on different options. With financing, we offer a relatively straightforward process which allows homeowners support to complete a needed project even when you may not have cash on hand.
If you notice any damage to your flooring, promptly document the issue and contact us right away. Our team will assess the situation and ensure your floor is restored to its original, flawless condition!
